Frequently Asked Questions

Will I pay the same rate as if I'd found my therapist myself?

Therapists charge the same price to those coming through Aligned as they do to those who contact them directly.

Why do therapists set their own prices?

Our therapists are independent professionals, not platform employees. They set their own rates based on their level and type of training, years of experience, location, and overheads - which ensures they're fairly compensated and can provide quality care.

Do I have to commit to multiple sessions?

No. While therapy typically works best with consistency, you're never locked in. You can book one session at a time, pause, or stop whenever you need to. That said, most people find 6–12 sessions at least are required to give therapy time to work, and some therapists may ask you to mentally ‘commit’ yourself to giving therapy this long to be effective.

Do I pay in advance or after sessions?

This varies by therapist - most will discuss payment terms before your first session. It's worth asking upfront so you both know where you stand.

What if I can't afford the typical rates?

Tell us your budget during matching - there's no judgment. Some therapists offer concessionary rates for those on lower incomes. We can prioritise those therapists in your matches - the key is being upfront so we can find options that work for you.

How long is a therapy session?

Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Some therapists offer 60 or 90-minute sessions for specific needs. The session length and price will be clear when you receive your match and can be discussed with your therapist directly.

What happens if I need to cancel or take a break?

Every therapist has their own cancellation and break policy - most are flexible and happy to accommodate holidays or schedule changes. It's worth discussing this with your therapist upfront so you both know where you stand. Aligned doesn't have a cancellation policy of its own - it's between you and your therapist.

Can I use my insurance or EAP?

To use your insurance, tell us during matching who you're insured with. We can then try to seek out a therapist for you who is an approved provider with your insurer.

To use your EAP, you usually need to go through them directly and they will place you with whichever therapists they have who are available.
