Matt Fenby Taylor
Product Advisor, Aligned
Matt Fenby Taylor is Product Advisor at Aligned. He has spent more than 20 years building consumer products, mostly two-sided marketplaces where one side pays for the other, which is how Aligned works: free for clients, paid for by therapists. He was Chief Product Officer at Unobravo, Europe’s largest mental health marketplace, and before that at ClearScore, where he grew the user base from 12 million to more than 20 million.
Matt studied astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh. He started his career at Sony Music and, after over a decade digitising music’s supply chain, went on to lead product teams at SoundCloud and Skyscanner.
At Unobravo, Matt ran product, engineering, design and data for a service delivering more than 2.5 million therapy sessions a year, and brought in proper testing of the therapist matching algorithm. He saw first-hand how much depends on the relationship between client and therapist, and how rarely platforms design for it. Most match people on availability, price and a few tick boxes, because those are easy to build. Aligned is built around getting that relationship right from the start.
At Aligned, Matt advises the founders on product and on using AI well, and writes product code himself. That includes the checks that make sure Ally, Aligned’s AI matching agent, is safe, accurate and helpful in every matching conversation. He brought the same discipline to heyclary.ai, the AI product he took to launch at Unobravo, where the evaluation work had to be in place before it could ship.
Matt is a trustee of Mind in Haringey, the mental health charity for the north London borough where he has lived for more than 15 years, and of Tutor The Nation, where he focuses on applying AI to safeguarding.
